Examples and analysis

Example one- E.T

From this clip it is easy to see why ET is established as a sci-fi. Directed by Steven Spielberg ET follows the friendship between a yound human boy and an alien. Sci-fi is often viewed as either advances in science eg the discovery of an alien, aswell as a change in society. Although ET is set in suburbian America the arrival of an alien distrubs this as Spielberg highlights the the film. The close up of ET- the alien and the high angle shot of the bicylce flying over the forest are clear evidence of science fiction as this wouldnt occur normally, however in the future flying bicylces could be possible. The shaky cam establishes a sense of realism to the scene which is what allows the film to be so heart-wrenching.

Example 2- Star Wars

Plot Overview

"30 years after the defeat of Darth Vader and the Empire, Rey, a scavenger from the planet Jakku, finds a BB-8 droid that knows the whereabouts of the long lost Luke Skywalker. Rey, as well as a rogue stormtrooper and two smugglers, are thrown into the middle of a battle between the Resistance and the daunting legions of the First Order" - IMDB Review

Star Wars created by George Lucas is possiby one of the most famous sci-fi film ever created. Filled with fictional character and technolgy that we can only dream of. From this clip the establishing shot of the desert setting and the robot beside the girl, the technolgy used in the film is that of science-fiction as it uses science to imagine the impaulsable could be made possible. The shaky cam of the spaceships flying spaceships adds to the drama of the scee and mimics the movements of the spaceship. The zoom in (into the spaceships) highlights how that this technolgy will soon be possibly in time
